All ILP special events are for ILP ELIGIBILE youth ONLY
Belle of the Ball
Young ladies, ages 16 – 19, are invited to a day of beauty, self-esteem, and empowerment. Girls receive a new prom dress & accessories and are paired one-on-one with a makeup professional for make-up application & skin care education. Workshops may also include body image, self-esteem, and empowerment topics.
Helps to prepare youth for transitioning into adulthood. It is a mock city with different stations that present youth with real-life scenarios. Youth will earn ILP $ for participating & completing activities at Independent City.
Boys to Men
In the spring, young men have an opportunity to attain professional guidance towards obtaining a job. This event is filled with working male professionals who individually mentor the youth for the day; by providing job seeking advice during the career development workshop and also advice on dress attire. The young men will be suited head to toe and ready for the job hunt.
In June, youth graduating from an ACCESS high school, home schooling, or getting their GED are given the opportunity to participate in a cap & gown ceremony (ALL graduating seniors are welcome to participate as well). Youth’s family and friends are invited to celebrate this milestone with them. The dinner and dance (ILP youth ONLY) afterwards is a chance to celebrate with their peers. Raffle prizes, giveaways, and much more!
College and Career Fair
On a college campus, youth have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to be successful in college, as well as learning about different careers. The fair is held at a different college every year, giving youth the opportunity to tour campuses they may not normally have access to.
In December, please join us for a fun night of dinner, dancing, raffle prizes, giveaways and much more!
